Senior Chemistry deals with the composition, structure and properties of matter and the changes it undergoes. A study of Chemistry will help students to gain a better understanding of the precision and design of the physical world God created. It is a fascinating topic in its own right but is also very practical: enabling us to be good stewards of the resources that God has given to us.
Senior Chemistry is suited to students who have achieved at least a C + in both Mathematics and Science in Year Ten. It is also beneficial for students to be studying Mathematics B.
A good background in Chemistry is essential for an increasing number of professions in a range of areas including agriculture, health, forensic science, nursing, forestry, industry, environmental work, zoology, marine science, pathology, photography, engineering, laboratory work and dentistry.
To recognise the complexities of this subject, an increase of a grade of 1 will be added to students’ semester results, for the purposes of GPA calculations only.
Senior Chemistry has run on a two-year cycle with a combined class of Year Eleven and Year Twelve students.
In 2021 the classes will be separate. Year Eleven will complete UNIT 1 and UNIT 2. Year Twelve will complete UNIT 4 and UNIT 2.
